    Let me welcome you to the first Mayor’s Column of 2025. To those new to reading this: I write this monthly feature on behalf of Lethbridge City Council to keep people informed on matters of importance in the community, as well as to highlight achievements by members of our community. Amid the challenges we face in Lethbridge, I also really try to use this space to focus on the positive pieces and the good news stories we have in the wonderful city we all call home.

  • Tinsel, transit & toys: Lethbridge Transit ‘wrapped’ with community spirit of holiday giving

    If you saw a 30-foot bus wrapped in sparkling lights with Santa behind the wheel during the holidays, it wasn’t the seasonal sugar high playing tricks with your eyes. It was the Lethbridge Transit Holiday Bus collecting donations and spreading good cheer! 

  • Partnership with Red Deer Polytechnic enhances firefighter-paramedic recruitment process

    Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services (LFES) is proud to announce a new partnership with Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) to offer third-party testing of the Firefighter Applicant Physical Test (FAPT). The FAPT is a key requirement for joining LFES. This initiative reduces barriers for prospective applicants by offering more accessible testing options, enhancing the department’s recruitment process.  

  • Caring for one another through waste diversion

    One local care facility has been looking after more than just its residents. 

    The Good Samaritan West Highlands Centre and Estates has been a leader in waste diversion for more than 20 years. 

  • Bylaw 6477 - Road Closure of a portion of Road Plan 791 0743 and 4716HB (Lane) Road Right-of-Way

    Proposal

    · To close 0.045 acres (0.018 ha) more or less portion of Road Plan 791 0743 and 4716HB (Lane) Road Right-of-Way

    What Does This Mean?

    · If the City Council approves the Bylaw 6477. The 0.045 acres (0.018 ha) more or less portion of Road Right-of-Way will be legally closed and consolidated with the property at 234 —22 Street North

     

  • Lane closure on Whoop-Up Drive to accommodate siphon repair

    One lane of Whoop-Up Drive will be closed support the University Siphon repair.

    The north lane on westbound Whoop-Up Drive will close daily, from Monday to Saturday, at 9 a.m. to allow resources to access the river valley.

  • Online service disruptions - January 10 to 15

    To better serve the community and online users, the City of Lethbridge is performing upgrades to a few of its online systems. As such, some websites and resources will be temporarily unavailable. 

  • Crews addressing wastewater pipe leak in the River Valley

    The City of Lethbridge is addressing a wastewater pipe leak in the River Valley, located northeast of the University of Lethbridge. There is no danger to public health or impact to City services. The area impacted by the leak is closed and the public is asked to stay outside the posted fencing and tape.

  • Pruning with a purpose: Lethbridge trees are getting their winter makeover

    Regular winter pruning of street trees is underway.

    Winter is the best time for pruning most trees, when they are dormant and there is a reduced risk of spreading disease. Elm trees have a specific pruning window from October 1 to March 31. All elm wood is disposed of properly to prevent the spread of elm disease.

  • Firefighters quickly contain northside commercial structure fire

    Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services responded to a commercial structure fire in the 1800 block of 39 Street North on Wednesday, January 8, at approximately 5:40 p.m.
