Paying Property Taxes

Property taxes are due on the last business day of June to avoid late payment penalties. Payment methods include:

Lethbridge taxpayers can opt for TIPP, making 10 equal monthly payments automatically withdrawn from their bank account on the first day of the month from August to May, earning a prepayment incentive with no service charge.

To be eligible, your current year property tax (due on the last business day of June) must be paid in full.

Save money by paying a lump sum up to the last business day of February, receiving a discount on property taxes. The prorated discount will be paid on the equivalent of the previous year's taxes and will be applied to your property tax account.

The rate changes yearly so please check local medial advertising from mid-December to the end of February or call 311 for the current rate.

Pay with cash, cheque, or direct debit at the 311 counter on the 1st floor of City Hall. 

Deposit cheques only in secure mailboxes located at:

  • The front doors of City Hall, or
  • The white, drive-through drop box in the traffic circle behind City Hall.

Do not send cash.

The City accepts the teller stamp or bank receipt as date of payment received.

Check with your financial institution Allow 1-2 business days for processing. Your account number is your 13-digit roll number.

For a 2.25% fee, you can pay property taxes online at lethbridge.ca/pay using Visa or MasterCard. Allow 1-2 business days for processing.

There are third-party online payment providers that offer credit card as a payment option for property taxes. The City does not endorse these third-party providers.

Companies offering this service charge a convenience fee, independent from the City, and payment delivery may take days or weeks. Property owners are responsible for timely payments; late payments will have penalties applied.

To initiate a discussion about an account, you must have the property owner complete and sign the Agent Authorization Form. Proof of signing authority may be required.

To inquire about the account balance, it is advisable to request this information directly from the property owner. Alternatively, you have the option to purchase a Tax Certificate.
