Sports Fields FAQs
What should I do if I notice unsafe conditions or damage to a sports field?
How often are sports fields maintained?
Maintenance priority is determined based on the field’s competition classification, duration and booking priority matrix (i.e., competitive sports parks hosting a tournament would be prioritized before a community drop-in field).
- Mowing - twice per week
- Trimming - once per week
- Lining - once per month, with exceptions to specialty fields and parks
- For game use unless otherwise requested at time of booking, and may require additional costs
- Irrigation and turf repairs
- Turf enhancements (aeration, fertilization, etc.) - once per year or as needed
Will I be notified if a sports field closes due to inclement weather or field maintenance?
To ensure as few interruptions as possible, regularly scheduled field maintenance is coordinated between bookings.
In the case of urgent or unexpected field maintenance, the City of Lethbridge will notify the main contact of the sports field booking. The main contact of your sports field booking is then responsible for notifying any individual teams or users of the sports field.
Sports fields can be booked by submitting a request through the City of Lethbridge’s online facility booking page. Once reviewed, City staff will confirm availability and provide booking details.
