Summer Edition

Mighty Neighbours

Mighty Neighbours: Summer Edition is an initiative aimed at recognizing and celebrating the unsung heroes who make our neighbourhoods warm, welcoming and ready for summer. The campaign invites residents to nominate neighbours who help others by cleaning up litter, picking up pet waste and cleaning out debris from storm drains.

Lena the Litter Legend

Lena the Litter Legend

Inspiring clean streets with a summer shine.

Lena the Litter Legend strolls through sidewalks and parks daily, swiftly collecting every scrap. To each passerby, she extends a warm wave and a smile, and no one can miss how the exercise and time outdoors boosts up her inner glow. Lena's friendly spirit and dedication are present rain or shine, and she inspires neighbours and visitors to become a cleanup hero too!

Lena’s tips

  • While going for a walk through your neighbourhood, pick up litter along the way
  • Hold a litter cleanup day with your family or neighbours
  • Adopt a park and volunteer at parks cleanups

Gavin the Gutter Buddy

Keeping storm drains flowing and inspiring neighbours.

Gavin the Gutter Buddy sweeps through the neighbourhood, checking drains and painting yellow fish. He even adopted his local stormdrain to make sure it's always flowing freely. Gavin rounds up the neighbours to highlight each drain with a reminder that street water drains right to the river so it's important to keep it clean. Bringing everyone together, he's a local hero for the river and beyond!

Poop-Scoopin' Penny

Keeping the neighbourhood smelling fresh year-round.

Every day, in all year round, Penny and Luna explore the neighbourhood. After a snowy park day, Luna left a surprise on the boulevard. No "out of sight" for Penny! She cleans up after Luna every time, making sure the outdoors stays pristine. Even in her backyard, Penny's on it, fighting off dirty paws and nasty odours. Penny keeps the neighbourhood smelling fresh year-round.

Penny's tips

  • Just because it’s in the long grass doesn’t mean it’s not there – don’t leave pet waste for someone else to uncover
  • Keep your backyard clean and fresh so bacteria isn’t tracked inside
  • Always pick up after your pets
