The first step to become a candidate is to file a Notice of Intent. This must be done before any campaign fundraising efforts and expenses can occur.

Key dates for the 2025 Municipal Election
Nomination Period
January 1 - September 22 at noon
Election Period
October 8 - October 20
Register as a candidate
To appear on the ballot, candidates must complete the following steps within the Nomination Period.
Current candidates
The Register of Candidates (those who have filed a Notice of Intent to run) and the List of Nominated Candidates (those whose Nomination Papers have been accepted) will be updated regularly throughout the Nomination Period.
Disclose financial contributions and expenses
All candidates have to file a disclosure statement, regardless of whether or not they are self-funded or elected.

Voter guidelines
You are eligible to vote if you can provide authorized identification which shows that you are:
- At least 18 years old
- A Canadian citizen
- A resident of Lethbridge
During the Election Period, there will be several polling stations set up throughout the city. There will be voting stations set up in assisted living facilities, hospitals and senior residences.
Polls are typically open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the Election Period. Advance voting will start October 8.
