Residential Parking Permits
When you live in an area that becomes difficult to park on, due to additional vehicles from employees and customers of nearby business, institutions. To help make space for residents, the City of Lethbridge offers a residential parking permit (RPP) program.
Do you live in a Residential Parking Permit area and need a permit?
Call 311 for information on obtaining a Residential Parking Permit. Residential Parking Permits can be obtained at the Parking Office located at 705 5 Ave S (Park n’ Ride Facility) In order to receive your permit, you will need:
- Registration of each vehicle you are requesting a permit for, showing matching name or address to requestor
- Proof of residency which could be government issued ID, lease aggreement, utility bill etc.
Request for a New Residential Parking Permit (RPP) Area
All Residential Parking Permit requests are subject to review by Parking Operations. This process will consist for a five-day review with multiple site visits at various times of day to assess the parking occupancy. If it is determined there is less than 60 per cent of stalls being occupied (40 per cent of stalls vacant) on average, an RPP Application Package will not be distributed.
At the request of the affected community, a petition will be provided by the City to a resident petitioner. The petitioner must take the petition to each address listed and must have the owner(s) of each residence sign if they are “for” or “against” the petition. To request a petition package, call 311. RPP Guidelines
66% of the owners must support the petition to create an RPP area. | Max. 4 vehicles per residence are eligible to receive permits, plus one visitor permit. |
For a street to be included in an RPP zone, the next closest street to the institution must also be in the RPP zone. No skipped blocks. | The entire RPP zone will be signed with a single time limit for efficient enforcement. |
Effective 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. 7 days a week, unless otherwise posted. | There is no cost for Residential Parking Permits. |
2 hour time limit. This allows visitors to park for short periods of time without a visitor permit. | Permits are valid for one year. |
One permit per vehicle will be issued. | Permits cannot be granted for recreational vehicles due to our bylaws. |
If the visitor permit is lost or stolen, it will not be replaced until the following year. | Each vehicle's registration is required, as well as proof of residency at the address. |
RPPs are not issued to apartment buildings. Tenants should contact the apartment manager to be accommodated for parking on site. |

Parking by Permit Only Area
Request for Parking by Permit only zones requests must be made to and approved by City Council only.
Enforcement of an RPP Area
